nubia Air Set for Oct 17 Launch; Local Retailers Leak Price Ahead of Time

By Timothy Teoh October 14, 2025

The iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge could see a potential rival in the ultra-slim phone category as nubia prepares to launch the uncannily named nubia Air smartphone.

Based on promotional posters published by ZTE Malaysia, the nubia Air will make its debut on October 17. nubia themselves have not confirmed the price of the phone, but official retailers DirectD, SS Solution, and MMG Distribution already have the pre-order page for the phone listed on their websites. If the listings are anything to go by, the nubia Air will arrive with a single 8GB/256GB configuration, retailing at RM1,099. Early bird offers will see prices drop to RM899 for a limited time.

nubia Air specs

Based on the nubia Air’s product page, the phone will sport a thickness of just 5.9mm. It isn’t quite as slim as the iPhone Air or Galaxy S25 Edge, which boast 5.6mm (not counting the protruding camera bump) and 5.8mm form factors respectively.

Weight-wise, the nubia Air is also the heavier option, but is still commendably lightweight at 172g (vs. iPhone Air’s 165g and S25 Edge’s 163g).

nubia’s slim iteration is a far more affordable device, and with that comes an understandably more modest chipset — specifically, an octa-core 5G processor with two Cortex-A78 performance cores.

For visuals, the phone fits a 6.78″ AMOLED panel offering 1.5K (1224×2720) resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 4,500 nits local peak brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The screen is protected with a layer of Gorilla Glass 7i, while the phone itself is reinforced with an aluminium frame. It is also rated IP69K, IP69, and IP68 for dust and water resistance.

The cameras on the nubia Air are notably similar to those of the Google Pixel phones. The lenses are lined up horizontally near the top of the phone, with the setup consisting of a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth camera. Elsewhere, at the front, is a 20MP selfie shooter.

Despite its slim body, the nubia Air manages to pack in a 5,000mAh battery, with support for 33W wired charging.

In line with the AI trend, the phone will also be equipped with AI features such as Magic Erase, Magic Editor, and AI Translate tools, to name a few.
