No more HBO channels on Astro or bundled HBO Max from March onwards
Movie fans in Malaysia will be losing out on one of the most iconic TV channels soon, as Astro has announced that HBO is leaving. HBO, part of the original Astro lineup since its inception in 1996, will no longer be part of the broadcaster’s suite of channels.
According to Astro, their partnership model with Warner Bros. Discovery is changing, meaning that from 1 March onwards HBO HD, Cinemax HD, HBO Family and HBO Hits will no longer be available on Astro starting 1 March 2026. Furthermore, HBO Max access as part of Astro’s bundle will no longer be available too.
Instead, HBO Max will only be available as an ala carte add-on for Astro subscribers, price at RM24.90/month. Those already subscribing to HBO Max as an add-on will see no changes.
As for TV, Astro is replacing the four HBO channels leaving with four new channels. From 1 March onwards, those subscribed to the Movies and Astro One Epic Pack will get:
Astro Showtime (CH 411)
Astro Showtime will feature your usual slew of Hollywood blockbuster titles, with Astro stating you can expect movies such as Violent Night, Jurassic World Dominion, Beast, and Snow White and the Huntsman.
Rock Action (CH 414)
Rock Action, as its name suggests, will bring thrillers and action movies to Astro subscribers, with fan favourites such as Miami Vice, Rambo Trilogy, Godzilla Minus One, Ghostbusters, and Captain Phillips.
Rock X Stream (CH 415)
Astro claims that Rock X Stream will focus more on prestige TV and streaming series, bringing content designed for discerning viewers looking for cinematic visuals, bold storytelling and standout performances. Here’s where you can get titles such as ee, Mr. Robot, Black Sails, Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue and more.
Astro FAM Time (CH 412)
Meanwhile, from 1 April onwards, Astro FAM Time will offer family-friendly movies and feel good entertainment. It will showcase heartwarming and comedic titles such as Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Minions: The Rise of Gru, Johnny English Reborn and more.
