Nintendo Switch 2 receives global launch; Set for release in Malaysia

The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 has officially launched globally with pricing and availability confirmed in the US. For us folks in the ASEAN region, namely Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines, we’ll have to wait anywhere between July and September for the official regional launch.
For a ballpark figure, the Switch 2 stamps a retail price of $449.99 in the US, which comes around to RM2004.71 locally. The MYR price is still only an estimate, though it does indicate that it will likely retail between RM2,000 and RM2,500 in Malaysia.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has a taller, more robust build by virtue of its enlarged display. The second generation console sports a 7.9″ 1080p display with 120Hz and HDR support. It can now also output compatible games in 4K when docked to TVs. There’s no OLED panel yet, so you’ll have to make do with an LCD display for the time being. Whether or not Nintendo will release an OLED model with a jacked up price later in the year is still up in the air.

Additionally, the Joy-Cons have undergone a slight facelift. They’re taller now, likely to fit the proportions of the console. Plus, it also attaches magnetically, and can double as a mouse.
Oddly enough, Nintendo did not specify the Switch 2’s GPU, but did state that it is a “Custom processor made by NVIDIA” on the spec sheet. For storage, you’ll have 256GB right out the system, with a microSD slot for expansion. However, Nintendo makes it clear that the slot is only compatible with microSD Express cards up to 2TB.

Meanwhile, you’ll find two USB-C ports for use – one each at the top and bottom of the console – and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Nintendo Switch 2 runs on a 5,220mAh battery, which the brand estimates will last you approximately 2 to 6.5 hours, depending on the graphic intensity of your titles.
