Nikon unveils ZR Cinema Camera in Malaysia, Starting at RM9,688

Nikon ZR – cinematic video powered by RED

Nikon has officially launched the Nikon ZR in Malaysia, a compact full-frame cinema camera developed in collaboration with RED Digital Cinema. Distributed locally by Futuromic Photo AV Sdn. Bhd., the ZR is designed to meet professional video production needs in a streamlined and portable form factor, weighing only 540g (body only).

The Nikon ZR supports internal 6K RAW video recording in formats such as R3D NE (RED’s custom codec), N-RAW, and ProRes RAW HQ. It also introduces the world’s first 32-bit float audio recording through a standard 3.5mm jack, a notable feature that eliminates clipping issues even with internal mics. The system includes OZO Audio with five pickup patterns, and is compatible with the ME-D10 microphone, which functions without cables or batteries via the digital accessory shoe.

The ZR features a dual base ISO of 800 and 6400, offering flexibility in different lighting environments. Its full-frame sensor supports 12-bit RAW recording at up to 6K/59.94p and 4K/119.88p, while a 5-axis in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) system helps maintain smooth footage during handheld use.

Users can preview and apply one of nine RED-curated Imaging Recipes in real time, or use standardised LUTs (17, 33, and up to ten 65-point LUTs) for accurate colour grading previews or final output. A huge 4.0-inch LCD screen provides real-time waveform, histogram, and multicolour zebra overlays for precise monitoring.

The camera includes 273 autofocus points covering 90% of the frame, and deep-learning subject detection for people, animals, vehicles, and aircraft. With a shutter angle range of 5.6° to 360°, the ZR supports true cinematic motion blur.

Connectivity features include HDMI, USB-C, HDMI-CEC tally support, and Frame.io integration for direct cloud uploads via the NX MobileAir app. Its compact, magnesium alloy body is dust- and drip-resistant and designed for prolonged recording sessions with silent heat dissipation.

Nikon ZR Price and availability in Malaysia

The Nikon ZR Cinema Camera will be available in Malaysia starting late October 2025. It is now open for pre-order through authorised Nikon dealers nationwide.
