‘Mid-range King’ Redmi Note 12 Series now available in Malaysia; price starts at RM699
A new ‘mid-range king’ has landed onto Malaysian shores in the form of the Redmi Note 12 Series. The series will consist of three offerings, the Redmi Note 12, the Redmi Note 12 5G, and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G.
The spotlight undoubtedly falls on the premium Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, which boasts a new 200MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). This surpasses the non-OIS 108MP main camera on last year’s Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G.
Ultimately, the Redmi Note 12 Series aims to provide flagship quality cameras to the mid-range segment.
You can pre-order the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G in a 8GB/256GB configuration for RM1,599. The Redmi Note 12 5G also comes in a single 8GB/256GB variant, priced at RM1,099.
For the Redmi Note 12, you can decide on a 6GB/128GB variant for RM699, or the 8GB/128GB variant for RM799.
All pre-orders from the 6th April to 13th April are entitled to a FREE Redmi Smart Band 2 worth RM149. Additionally, the Redmi Note 12 (6GB/128GB) will have an online exclusive promo which will see its price reduced to RM659.

Redmi Note 12 Series specs
Starting first with the premium model, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G will run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 1080 processor. You will have up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with no option to expand via a microSD card.
It is fitted with a 6.67-inch FHD+ (1080x2400px) display with a curved Flow AMOLED screen. Scrolling experience will be smooth thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate and 900nits peak brightness. All this are protected under the sturdy Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Other than that, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G will come with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 support, as well as stereo speakers.
The main differentiator between the three models lies in the camera. While all three will sport a triple camera system, the premium Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G is the model that will posses the 200MP main camera with OIS. Working alongside it is an 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro camera.
At the front is a punch hole 16MP selfie camera.
The Redmi Note 12 on the other hand has a decent 50MP main camera. Similarly, it is flanked by an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro camera.
The 5G model Redmi Note 12 5G consists of a similar camera makeup, the only difference being the slightly lesser 48MP main camera.
Both the Redmi Note 12 and Redmi Note 12 5G share the same 13MP front camera.
The Redmi Note 12 5G and Redmi Note 12 will use a different processor altogether. The Redmi Note 12 5G will utilize the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 processor with 5G capabilities. You will get up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The Redmi Note 12 on the other hand will use the Snapdragon 685 and comes in two configurations: a 6GB/128GB a 8GB/128GB version.
For both models, storage is expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card.
Their displays are very much the same as its more premium sibling with a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, but it misses out on the curved screen. It is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
In terms of connectivity, the Redmi Note 12 5G and Redmi Note 12 supports WiFi 5. However, the latter only supports Bluetooth 5.0, while the former is able to support Bluetooth 5.1.
All three models share the same 5,000mAh battery capacity, but with differing fast charging capabilities. The Redmi Note 12 5G and Redmi Note 12 pushes up to 33W fast charging. Leading the race though is the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, which packs an impressive 120W HyperCharge. To ensure safe charging, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G has a dedicated chipset that manages charging efficiency and temperature control.
All models have side-mounted fingerprint sensor, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.
For colour choices, you will have the option of Midnight Black, Polar White, and Sky Blue for the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5g. For the Redmi Note 12 5G, you’ll have Onyx Gray, Forest Green, and Ice Blue; the Redmi Note 12 will also have Onyx Gray and Ice Blue, but has the choice of a Mint Green as the third colour option instead.
