Microsoft CEO Hints at Next-Gen Xbox as a Premium Console-PC Hybrid

By Aiman Maulana November 10, 2025

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has shared new insights about the future of Xbox, hinting that the next-generation console could combine elements of both a gaming PC and a traditional console.

Next-Gen Xbox Will Be a Console-PC Hybrid

In an interview with TBPN, Nadella discussed how Microsoft intends to innovate on the “system side” of both console and PC hardware. He noted that the company initially designed the original Xbox as a PC built specifically for gaming, adding that he now wants to “revisit some of that conventional wisdom.”

Nadella also addressed Microsoft’s growing influence as a publisher, highlighting that the company is now one of the largest in the gaming industry following its acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. He emphasized Microsoft’s goal of becoming a “fantastic” publisher by delivering its titles “everywhere” and across “every platform,” acknowledging Steam as a key competitor in the space.

These statements align with ongoing speculation that their next succeeding model will be a premium console-PC hybrid platform, potentially designed to blend the flexibility and power of PC gaming with the streamlined experience of a console. Xbox president Sarah Bond recently reinforced this idea, describing the next-generation Xbox as a “curated” and “premium” platform built to push gaming innovation forward.
