MGS5 EV is indeed coming to Malaysia and we got an early preview of it live

The MGS5 EV is gearing up for its official debut in Malaysia, with an estimated starting price of RM115,000. Unveiled during SAIC Motor Malaysia’s media preview, this marks the electric SUV’s first formal appearance in the local market. With its competitive pricing and tech-forward features, the MGS5 EV is expected to rival popular models like the Proton eMAS 7 and BYD Atto 3 Ultra.
MGS5 EV: All the details as we know it

SAIC Motor Malaysia has confirmed that the MGS5 EV will be available in two main variants, though detailed pricing for each will only be revealed at the SUV’s official launch scheduled for May 2025. The MGS5 EV is built with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) layout and will be offered in two battery and motor configurations:
Base Spec
- Battery: 50kWh LFP
- Motor Output: 125kW (168hp), 250Nm torque
- Range: 340km (WLTP-rated)
- DC Charging: Up to 88kW
- AC Charging: 6.6kW
High Spec

- Motor Output: 180kW (241hp), 350Nm torque
- Range: 480km (WLTP-rated)
- DC Charging: Up to 150kW
- AC Charging: 6.6kW
Both variants also support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing users to power external devices using the car’s battery.

Available Colors and Interior Finish

The MGS5 EV will be available in the following color options for the Malaysian market:
- Arctic White
- Monument Silver
- Camden Grey
- Dynamic Red
- Elegant Latte (exclusive to the high-spec model)
The SUV features a dark interior finish with seats made from a combination of leather and fabric, offering both comfort and style.
While we may not know the official price for both variants, the rough estimated price of RM115,000 certainly makes it quite an attractive and competitive choice. It’s clear that it’s trying to compete against the Proton eMas 7, arguably the most popular EV SUV in Malaysia right now, and the MGS5 EV could give it a run for its money based on what we saw at the event. But for now, we will just have to wait and see for the official launch and, hopefully, we’ll get to take it for a test drive as well.
