Metroid Prime 4: Paywall Aran — Samus Needs Your Wallet Too

Nintendo fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, set to release on December 4, 2025 for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. Arriving more than 18 years after Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, the new entry brings back Samus Aran in a battle against rival bounty hunter Sylux, while introducing fresh gameplay mechanics such as Samus’ motorcycle, Vi-O-La, on the planet Viewros.
But there’s a catch; some of the game’s bonus features are locked behind exclusive Amiibo figurines, raising the cost of unlocking everything well beyond the base game price.

Owning the three new Amiibo, Samus, Sylux, and Samus & Vi-O-La, unlocks special features not available otherwise. While none are essential to completing the game, they add unique customization and gameplay perks:
- Samus & Vi-O-La Amiibo
- Change Vi-O-La’s motorcycle color
- Track total mileage each time the Amiibo is tapped
- Boost energy regeneration speed once per day
- Samus Amiibo
- Change background music while riding Vi-O-La
- Activate a once-per-day energy shield that blocks up to 99 damage and fully restores health
- Sylux Amiibo
- Hear a random Sylux dialogue line when tapped
- Unlock a special movie of in-game events after completing the story
Additionally, tapping older Metroid or Super Smash Bros. Amiibo triggers random sound effects, adding nostalgic flair. While Metroid Prime 4 is the first mainline Prime entry to support Amiibo, other Metroid titles have included similar features:
- Metroid Dread: Samus Amiibo refilled 100 HP; other Metroid Amiibo replenished missiles.
- Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS): Amiibo unlocked missile tanks, reserve energy, Aeion energy, and even a special Fusion Suit.
- Other Nintendo titles: Metroid Amiibo have also appeared in Mario Party 10, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Bayonetta 2.
Cost vs. Value: Are Metroid Prime 4 Amiibos Worth It?
The base game costs $59.99 / RM219 on Switch and $69.99 / RM249 on Switch 2, but purchasing all three new Amiibo adds roughly $100 / RM400 to the total investment. With the Samus & Vi-O-La Amiibo priced at $39.99 and the others at $29.99 each, many fans may skip these extras despite their fun cosmetic and functional perks.
While the Amiibo don’t lock away essential gameplay, they do provide immersive bonuses that dedicated collectors and completionists may find worthwhile.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is shaping up to be one of Nintendo’s most anticipated releases for the Switch 2’s launch year. The Amiibo tie-ins add collectible appeal and unique gameplay enhancements, but their high cost compared to the base game may limit adoption among casual players.
