Meta Teams Up With Oakley to Launch High-Performance AI Glasses

Tech giant Meta has teamed up with American sportswear brand Oakley to roll out the next series of AI glasses. Aptly named the Oakley Meta HSTN (pronounced HOW-stuhn), this marks Meta’s second partnership for AI eyewear, following their collaboration on the Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
While the Ray-Bans were targeted at lifestyle consumers, the Oakley series seems geared towards athletes. That’s evident in the marketing video, as well as the superstar endorsements it’s receiving from World Cup winner Kylian Mbappé and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes. Additionally, the glasses are rated IPX4 for water resistance.

The Oakley Meta HSTN embeds a built-in high-resolution camera in the top corner of the frame. It reportedly shoots in 3K Ultra HD but is limited to a maximum recording time of three minutes. For photos, a capture button is located on top of the glasses’ arms.

Meta has also included Meta AI – its voice-controlled AI assistant – which wearers can activate without touching the glasses. You can ask questions, command it to record a video, or even instruct it to take a photo and send it directly via WhatsApp. Complementing this are the open-ear speakers underneath the arms, with volume controls cleverly integrated along the wide part of the glasses’ arms.

How long does the AI eyewear last? Meta claims a fully charged pair of Oakley Meta HSTN glasses can last up to eight hours of typical use, with 19 hours of standby time. The glasses also come with a charging case, which provides up to 48 hours of additional battery life on the go.
Given that the Ray-Ban Meta glasses never made it to our shores, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see the Oakley models officially launched in Malaysia. Nevertheless, if you’re curious about the price, the Oakley Meta HSTN officially retails for USD 499 — roughly RM2,135.72.

It might still be possible to get your hands on a pair — if you’re somehow desperate for one — but you’ll likely need to go through third-party distributors or have them shipped in for an additional fee.
