Maybank to discontinue Maybank2u App completely on 28 August

By Timothy Teoh August 7, 2024

Maybank has announced that it will fully discontinue the Maybank2u App on 28 August 2024. This is a complete closure of the banking app, meaning that users will no longer be able to access or use its features come the deadline.

Instead, Maybank encourages users to transition to the newer MAE App, which includes all the functions of the Maybank2u App, along with additional features and enhanced security. Secure2u, Maybank’s authorisation feature for online transactions, has also been fully integrated into the MAE app.

On that note, Maybank adds that new users of the MAE app are required to register for Secure2u, after which they will need to activate Secure2u at any Maybank ATM. A 12-hour activation period will apply to first-time Secure2u activations.

You can watch Maybank’s guide on how to enable Secure2u on the MAE app below:

The complete discontinuation of the Maybank2u App has been on the cards for some time now. In June, the bank announced that it would cease all updates for the Maybank2u App, and that it will be removed from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei AppGallery starting 30 June 2024.

It appears Maybank has now decided that it is the right time to fully close the curtains on the aging banking app.
