Licensed taxi drivers in Klang Valley can now sign up to be Bolt drivers too

Bolt has announced that licensed taxis in Klang Valley can now onboard and operate directly on the Bolt app. The move allows licensed taxi drivers to register and accept trips through the Bolt platform, integrating traditional taxi services into Bolt’s existing ride-hailing category.
With approximately 15,000 registered taxis operating in Klang Valley, the inclusion significantly increases the number of vehicles available to serve passengers. By strengthening overall driver supply, Bolt aims to reduce average pickup times and moderate price spikes during peak demand periods. This ensures passengers can access more transport options, especially during rush hours, public holidays and busy travel seasons.
Passengers can request a ride through the Bolt app as usual, and if there’s a licensed taxi available you can be matched with one. However, you’ll still get real-time trip tracking, upfront pricing transparency and cashless payment options. Each ride is also supported by Bolt’s built-in safety features, including verified driver onboarding and identity checks, live trip tracking, trip-sharing with trusted contacts and an in-app emergency SOS button.

For taxi drivers, Bolt says that this would open up new ways to earn beyond the usual ehailing and dispatch systems. Through Bolt’s smart matching technology and real-time demand insights, drivers can benefit from improved trip volume and stronger visibility within an increasingly digital mobility landscape.
“Our priority is to create sustainable earning opportunities for drivers while continuously improving the experience for passengers. By welcoming licensed taxis onto the Bolt platform, we are strengthening Bolt’s overall driver base across Klang Valley.
This allows us to reduce pickup times and moderate surge pricing during peak demand, while equipping taxi drivers with smarter technology to access consistent trip volume. It’s a win-win that improves reliability for riders and earnings potential for drivers,” – Afzan Lutfi, Bolt Malaysia General Manager
