JPJ Issues Recall for Over 8,000 Vehicles, Including Kia, Yamaha and Mercedes-Benz

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a recall notice for 8,322 vehicles in Malaysia, citing safety concerns involving structural, equipment and system defects. The directive, announced by JPJ Director General Aedy Fadly Ramly, affects several car and motorcycle models from Kia, Yamaha and Mercedes-Benz.

The largest group affected in this recall is the Kia Rio UB, with 5,123 units from the 2010 to 2017 production years being recalled. These models are suspected to be at risk of a short circuit in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), which could potentially result in a fire.
Motorcycles are also significantly affected. A total of 1,649 units of the Yamaha MT09 and 1,369 units of the Tracer 9 GT produced between November 2021 and February 2025 are being recalled due to possible malfunctions in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). In addition, 149 units of the Yamaha Tenere model, from 2023 to 2024, are being recalled to fix clutch-related issues.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is recalling 32 units from its 2023 and 2025 lineup, including models such as the S 580 e, GLC 300 4MATIC, EQS 500, AMG SL 43, EQE 53 and EQS 53. According to JPJ, the recall is linked to concerns over the improper installation of fuse boxes.

JPJ Director General Aedy Fadly Ramly emphasised that the recall is a preventive measure to reduce the risk of accidents. “The recall is important to avoid crashes due to defects,” he said. He added that affected vehicle owners will be contacted by the respective manufacturers to coordinate inspection slots.
“All owners with affected models are asked to plan ahead to enable the recall and inspection to be done as soon as possible,” he added. The cost of component replacement or repair will be fully covered by the manufacturer.
