JPJ Extends Weekend Operating Hours for Driving License Renewals Ahead of RON95 Subsidy

Following the RON95 subsidy announcement (BUDI RON95) by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced that it will extend its operating hours for its driving license counters and related services.
The new operating hours for these counters will run from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah, and Saturdays and Sundays in all other states. The new hours will take effect from 27 September and will last until 26 October 2025.
The extended hours are meant to provide flexibility to Malaysians who need to renew their licenses in order to benefit from the RON95 subsidy, especially those who are short on time during weekdays and need to rely on weekends to run their errands.
According to JPJ, as many as 2.3 million Competent Driving License (CDL) holders are currently inactive, with licenses that have lapsed for more than three years, while 15.2 million CDL holders remain active.
For the former cohort with expired licenses for more than three years, they are required to re-sit the Driver Education Curriculum Part 2 and 3 (KPP02 and KPP03) tests. Those with expired licenses that have not yet reached the three-year lapse grace period are urged to renew their licenses using the MyJPJ app, mySikap portal, or kiosks.
