Is a new Xbox coming next year? AMD seems to think so

While the Xbox console isn’t officially in Malaysia—unless you count the ROG Xbox Ally series that is—it’s still a fascinating piece of hardware for gamers. Microsoft themselves have confirmed last year that it’s already working on a new Xbox in partnership with AMD, and now AMD seems to have hinted that the upcoming Xbox will be happening next year.
In an earnings call, AMD CEO Lisa Su stated that development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom processor is ‘progressing well to support a launch in 2027’. To be fair, that doesn’t confirm that there will be a new Xbox in 2027, but at least it does state that AMD is ready to support Microsoft if they’re ready too.
Back in June, Microsoft confirmed that the next-gen Xbox will be AMD-powered. In a YouTube announcement video by Xbox president Sarah Bond, they stated that they were partnering with the semiconductor giant in a strategic multi-year partnership, co-engineering the processors that will power a portfolio of devices. We would later see the ROG Xbox Ally series launch later that year, which was certainly just their first step in building new gaming hardware.
Microsoft themselves have previously planned for a 2028 release, as revealed in court documents leaked during their FTC vs Microsoft case. It is however worth noting that these documents likely don’t reflect their current plans anymore. Perhaps we may finally see a full fledged Xbox console in Malaysia next year.
