iQOO 15R: Cheaper Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 gaming phone with 144Hz screen, from just RM2,499

The iQoo 15 launched late last year, and packed some incredible performance for its RM3,699 starting price thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 under the hood. However, if that’s a little out of budget, the newly launched iQoo 15R could be a decent alternative instead, as it still comes with powerful hardware at a significantly cheaper price.

The iQoo 15R will be available in the following two configurations:

  • iQoo 15R, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM2,499
  • iQoo 15R, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM2,699

It is already on sale on the official iQoo TikTok, Shopee and Lazada store, as well as Vivo Concept Stores nationwide. For the early birds who snag one before the 8th of March, you’ll also get free gifts worth up to RM458, which include a pair of iQoo Buds, a 1+1 year extended warranty and a 180-day screen crack warranty.

iQOO 15R specs

The iQoo 15R’s main selling point is that it offers incredible performance for its price tag. While it technically sits below the mainline iQoo 15, the iQoo 15R’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is still a relatively powerful chip, just as good as last year’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite. It gets mated to 12GB of LPDDR5X Ultra memory and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage, running OriginOS 6 out of the box with 4 years of major OS upgrades.

On top of that, there’s a supplementary Supercomputing Chip Q2 to handle higher refresh rates for smoother gameplay, while the Monster HyperCore Engine feature ensures stable framerates and optimises performance while gaming. Keeping all that silicon cool is the 6.5K IceCore VC Cooling system, with a 6500mm² vapour chamber alongside a dual layer graphite sheet for better thermal performance.

The iQoo 15R is actually smaller than the iQoo 15, straddling the middle ground between compact and large. It sports a 6.59-inch AMOLED display, pushing a 2750 x 1260p resolution with a 144Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 5000nits. As for its cameras, you’ll find a 50MP, f/1.88 main camera using a Sony LYT-700V image sensor flanked by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide while a 32MP, f/2.2 camera sits upfront.

Other features of note include a 7,600mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging, bypass charging for when you’re gaming while plugged in, an in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers and an IP68/69 dust and water resistance rating.
