iPhone 17 Battery Leaks Suggest Air Model Could Have a Larger Battery Than Expected

By Timothy Teoh September 9, 2025

We are less than a day away from Apple’s highly anticipated ‘Awe-dropping’ event, but that won’t stop leaksters from releasing any bit of information they can get beforehand. I mean, we’ve already seen cases for the iPhone 17 Series right here in Malaysia – weeks before launch.

The latest revelation comes from notorious leakster ShrimpApplePro (@VNchocoTaco on X), who somehow got his hands on the battery capacities of the entire iPhone 17 lineup through Chinese regulatory filings. The sheet, posted on the tipster’s official X account, allegedly reveals the exact battery capacities for the iPhones.

The most surprising figure among them is that the iPhone 17 Air – the series’ ultra-slim, ultra-light model – will have a 3,036mAh capacity. While not large by any means, it slightly exceeds the 2,800mAh battery that many had anticipated. It will still raise questions about how it will compare to the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 3,900mAh capacity and whether the investment will be worth the potential battery anxiety.

Moving on, the base iPhone 17 is set to feature a 3,692mAh capacity, while the Pro and Pro Max models will pack larger 3,988mAh and 4,832mAh batteries, respectively.

It’s worth noting that certain markets will offer e-SIM variants of the iPhone 17 series, in which case a larger battery is expected. According to the sheet, the capacity of the e-SIM models of the 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max will be 3,149mAh, 4,252mAh, and 5,088mAh, respectively.

Of course, based on track record, Apple is unlikely to reveal the battery capacities in terms of mAh. Over the years, the tech giant has typically only provided battery endurance data based on video playback time. Aside from the 17 Air variant, we can expect improvements across the board for all models, likely due to a (hopefully) more efficient processor.

Apple’s ‘Awe-dropping’ event will start at 1 AM on September 10th, Malaysia Time. It will be broadcast live on Apple Malaysia’s official website and YouTube channel.
