iPhone 17 Air Allegedly Has Only a 2,800mAh Battery – It Feels Like We’re Back in 2020

The competition to release 2025’s worst smartphone battery is heating up, as the iPhone 17 Air looks to outperform (or rather, underperform) the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge’s 3,900mAh capacity.
New leaks from an anonymous blogger close to Apple’s supply chain have revealed the iPhone 17 Air’s thickness, weight, and battery life. The leaker, yeux1122, published on Korean platform NAVER that the 17 Air will measure a slim 5.5mm and weigh only 145g.
The dimensions are impressive – except that they come at a devastating cost of a 2,800mAh battery capacity. The tech world was up in arms about the Galaxy 25 Edge battery cut; now, it looks like they’ll have a new target to take aim at.

Perhaps Apple is going down memory lane to relive the good ol’ times. As pointed out by 9to5Mac, the last iPhone to feature a 2,800mAh battery was the iPhone 12 series, released in 2020.
It’s obvious Apple won’t let itself get run over this easily. The company will likely go out of its way to justify the lackluster capacity with reasons along the lines of an efficiently optimized processor or new battery tech with greater energy density. Truth is, we won’t really know for sure until the 17 Air is launched and gets a solid chance to prove us wrong.
Nevertheless, the 2,800mAh figure isn’t giving anyone much confidence.

There are also reports that Apple is preparing to bring back the battery case as an add-on for the iPhone 17 Air. If that proves true, it all starts to sound like a sleazy money-grabbing scheme. Plus, it makes it seem like Apple is admitting to subpar battery life for the iPhone 17 Air.
Of course, all of this is still unconfirmed. So we’ll reserve judgement until it’s all said and done.
