iPhone 16e: A18 chip, Action Button, 48MP camera, and everything else you need to know

After weeks of high anticipation, Apple has finally lifted the curtain on the iPhone 16e. The phone is a new addition to the iPhone 16 lineup, even boasting the same A18 chipset found in the base iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models.

Much of the previously reported leaks turned out to be true. The iPhone 16e’s layout is rather minimalistic, with only a single camera lens positioned at the top left of the rear panel. This, by the way, is a 48MP Fusion camera with an integrated 2x telephoto lens, which Apple says will “zoom in with optical quality.” On that note, the camera can also record videos in 4K at 60FPS.

Another rumour proven true is the inclusion of a TrueDepth camera system, which enables Face ID for users to unlock their phones.

In terms of dimensions, the iPhone 16e closely resembles the base iPhone 16. It dons a 6.1″ Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology, though its peak HDR brightness is slightly lower at 1,200nits (vs. 1,600nits on the iPhone 16).

You’ll have the choice of Black or White, both of which sport a matte finish. The iPhone 16e is also IP68-rated for splash, water, and dust resistance.

Also – and you may have seen this coming a mile away – the iPhone 16e charges via USB-C. A nice bonus, however, is that wireless charging is also supported. Apple remains tight-lipped about the battery’s mAh, but they assure that the iPhone 16e can last up to 12 hours longer than all generations of the iPhone SE.

Like its more premium siblings, the iPhone 16e is built to run Apple Intelligence. This means you’ll have a suite of AI tools at your fingertips, including Clean Up tool to remove unwanted elements from photos (a.k.a. AI Eraser), Genmoji to generate custom emojis, and Writing Tools to enhance written text. You’ll also be able to search within the Photos app using detailed descriptions.

Additionally, you’ll benefit from a more context-aware Siri that can handle multiple requests, plus an upgraded conversational ability that understands users even if they stumble over a few words.

Depending on which camp you’re in, you might be relieved – or not – to know that the iPhone 16e does not have the Camera Control button that debuted on the iPhone 16. However, you do have the Action Button for quick and customizable access to functions.

Here’s where you can also access Visual Intelligence, allowing you to take actionable AI-powered steps, including summarizing and copying text, as well as detecting phone numbers and emails from your photos.

ASUS unveils new Zenbook A14 powered by Snapdragon X Series CPU

By Timothy Teoh February 19, 2025

ASUS Malaysia has expanded its Zenbook catalogue with the unveiling of the latest Zenbook A14 laptops. The launch marks a few firsts in the series, including being the first Zenbook model powered by the Snapdragon X Series processor and the lightest 14″ Copilot+ PC on the market.

The Snapdragon processors are very much at the forefront of the AI era, boasting 45 TOPS thanks to the Hexagon NPU.

The Zenbook A14 is available in two models: an OLED model and a non-model OLED, both of which sports ASUS’ Ceraluminium material in their chassis.

Starting with the non-OLED model, it features the Snapdragon X processor, supported by 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB SSD. For visuals, it relies on a 14″ FHD+ (1920×1200) 100% sRGB display with 400nits maximum brightness. When unplugged, the laptop runs on a 48Wh li-ion battery.

In terms of connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. It also has healthy array of ports with 2x USB Type-C (supports DP and Power Delivery), 1x USB 3.2 Type-A, 1x HDMI 2.1, as well as 1x audio combo jack.

Weighing in at only 899g, this is an ideal option for the on-the-go workforce.

Moving on to the Zenbook A14 powered by the Snapdragon X Elite, this laptop is touted as the lightest 14″ Copilot+ PC on the market, weighing only 980g. Here’s where you’ll find glossy visuals with the 14″ OLED panel offering FHD+ (1920×1200) resolution. Compared to its counterpart, it boasts a higher 600nits peak HDR brightness, a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, and a TUV Rheinland-certified display for eye comfort.

Similarly, it is equipped with 32GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB SSD.

You’ll get the same array of ports as the non-OLED model, but connectivity is notably better with support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. It also offers longer battery life thanks to its 70Wh li-ion battery.
