Based on Apple’s history, the iPhone 14 lineup is likely to debut in September 2022. However, it depends on the state of the industry at the time and whether the chip shortage issue persists.

Additionally, the 5.4” iPhone mini would be the last of the mini phones following lacklustre sales. This probably means the lineup will only include four models: the iPhone 14, 14 Pro, 14 Max and 14 Pro Max.

Also, many presume that Apple will focus on larger-sized iPhones in the future, so you can expect the sizes of the 2022 lineup to change.

Leaks revealed that the iPhone 14 series would include a 6.1” iPhone 14 and 14 Pro, along with a 6.7” iPhone 14 Max and 14 Pro Max.

Furthermore, rumours claimed that all iPhone 14 models would feature the 120Hz ProMotion, similar to the iPhone 13 Pro. However, certain sources claim that Apple will limit the ProMotion to the Pro models, so this isn’t guaranteed yet.

Moreover, many believe Apple will use a thicker chassis to reduce the rear camera bulge of the iPhone 14. Several renders of the iPhone 14 Pro reveal a design that resembles the iPhone 4.

Plus, rumours claim that Apple will replace the notch with a punch-hole front-facing camera, at least with the Pro models. Meanwhile, Apple will likely place the Face ID under the display as the company has reportedly been working on an under-display Face ID.

As with Apple’s new iPhone releases, the iPhone 14 series will also include an upgrade on camera technology.

Reportedly, the standard iPhone 14 model will feature a triple camera, while the 14 Pro might boast a quad camera. The 14 Pro might also feature 8K video recording and upgrade its main camera to 48MP.

As previously mentioned, leaks have revealed that the new models will include bump-free camera models. The lenses, flash, and LiDAR scanner might sit flush with the rear glass body if this is the case.

Moreover, some sources mentioned a possibility of a new “periscope” zoom lens that allows for more excellent optical zoom. However, these sources have yet to confirm whether it will come in 2022 or 2023.

Apple will reportedly use a new A-series chip, the A16, to bring improved power and efficiency to the iPhone 14. TSMC might use a 3nm or 4nm technology, which has advantages over the iPhone 13’s 5nm A15 chip.

Also, the upcoming iPhones will feature Qualcomm’s X65 5G chipset, the world’s first 10 Gigabit 5G modem and antenna system. With the X65, comes the potential for a satellite-based emergency feature that allows users to send emergency texts in areas without cellular coverage.

Other than that, the iPhone 14 also includes up to 2TB of storage and faster WiFi 6E connection.

Additional Features

Apple is working on a crash detection technology for the iPhone 14 and the Apple Watch. This feature would allegedly detect an accident using the phone’s sensors like the accelerometer and immediately contact 911 for assistance.

Furthermore, Apple analysts have also reported that Apple is currently working on iPhones with under-display Touch ID. However, it’s unclear whether this will feature in Apple’s flagship iPhones or future iPhone SE models.
