iPad Air (2026): Now with M4 and WiFi 7 support, same RM2,799 starting price

Together with the iPhone 17e, Apple has also dropped the refreshed iPad Air for this year. It is mostly a minor refresh however, sporting the same design and display as before. On the brightside, the new iPad Air is still the same price as its predecessor, something that isn’t always guaranteed these days.

Apple iPad Air (2026) specs

There’s only really three major upgrades on the new iPad Air. For starters, it now comes with the Apple M4 chip rather than its predecessor’s M3, which means an 8-core CPU with 3 performance and 5 efficiency cores alongside a 9-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine and faster 120GB/s memory bandwidth, along with iPadOS 26 out of the box. The second upgrade here is the amount of unified memory, going from 8GB of RAM to 12GB of RAM, which should be great for heavy multitaskers on the iPad Air.

Lastly, this year’s iPad Air comes with better connectivity, thanks to the Apple N1 chip. Having first debuted on the iPhone 17 series, it now makes its way to the iPad Air, enabling support for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. And for those using the WiFi + Cellular models, you’ll also find the C1X modem under the hood for up to 50% faster cellular data performance and 30% less modem energy use.

Other than that though, you’re looking at essentially the same tablet as before. You get the same 11- or 13-inch Liquid Retina IPS display with a 264PPI pixel density, same 500nits of brightness on the 11-incher and 600nits on the larger one, with the same P3 colour and anti-reflective coating.

There’s also the same 12MP rear camera as before, and the same 12MP landscape Center Stage camera on the front of the iPad Air. Then there’s the same up to 10h hours of battery life rating, and the same set of landscape stereo speakers, as well as the same Touch ID in the top button.
Overall, it’s not much of an upgrade and more of a refresh, but if you feel like you could make good use of the extra horsepower M4 and the 12GB of RAM provides, then this year’s iPad Air could be up your alley.
