imoo Openbuds E5: A unique take on true wireless earbuds

By Timothy Teoh September 6, 2024

The true wireless (TWS) buds market seems to have hit a wall when it comes to design. It’s saturated with template capsule-shaped cases and deep-sitting earbuds that may seem invasive to some users.

If you’re in that camp and you’re looking for something fresh and different, consider the imoo Openbuds E5.

You’d be forgiven if you thought this was anything else other than earbuds. For starters, it doesn’t have one of those conventional cases with a cover lid to flip open. Quite the contrary, it has no lid at all. Instead, the buds are housed along the side panels of the case, accessible with a push-and-release mechanism that conveniently unclicks the buds from the case.

The buds are oddly-shaped, but for good reason. imoo claims the funky ear-clip design allows for adaptability to various ear shapes. For those uncomfortable with clogging your ears with a foreign object, a latching mechanism may come as a solution.

On a related note, having the buds sit right at the opening of the ears avoids direct auditory impact to the eardrum, which makes it a good choice for children. Not to mention, it gives invaluable spatial and sound awareness that could prevent serious mishaps.

With an IPX4 rating, the buds are durable against sweat and light rain. And, coupled by the fact they weigh only 4.9g each, makes them a good option for sporty and active folks.

Batteries too, are decent. You can expect to hit up to 4 hours on a single charge, 26 hours total if you include a fully-charged case.

The imoo Openbuds E5 is available in Malaysia at a retail price of RM399. You can purchase them online at the OPPO Store; or on imoo’s official platforms on Shopee and Lazada.
