HUAWEI P50 Pocket: Everything you need to know about HUAWEI’s latest flip phone.
HUAWEI has officially released its first flip phone in China, the HUAWEI P50 Pocket. The P50 Pocket folds in similar fashion to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. With prices starting from ¥8988.00 (~MYR 5905.25) for the base model (8+256GB), the P50 Pocket is a compact and powerful but yet elegant device.
As of time of writing, HUAWEI Malaysia has yet to announce any official release of the device in Malaysia.
HUAWEI P50 Pocket Key Highlights
- Elegant Design: The P50 Pocket offers two elegant design options – diamond white and premium gold. Both of which consists of a textured rear panel. The diamond white version features a 3D micro-sculpture design that allows you to feel the art of light in your palm.
The premium gold version on the other hand was designed in collaboration with Haute Couture designer Iris Van Herpen. It features an amazing style of organically flowing patterns in a stunning gold tone, bringing an element of organic, kinetic life to cutting edge technology that moves.
Perhaps, most importantly, there are no gaps between the display when the device is folded! - Gorgeous Display: The P50 Pocket is equipped with a 6.9-inch OLED display that support refresh rates of up to 120Hz. The aspect ratio of the display is a familiar 21:9 which eliminates any black panels on the top and bottom of the screen in most cases. Lastly, the pixel density of the display is a highly respectable ~442 ppi.
- Mini Outer Display: The device is also equipped with a 1.04 inch OLED display beneath its main camera sensors which supports touch functions and a variety of applications. With this display, users can make full use of the P50 Pocket’s powerful 40MP main camera sensor to take beautiful selfies, check the time, receive calls as well as play music.
- Great Performance: Backed by a Snapdragon 888 chipset and a 4,000mAh battery, the device is more than capable of powering users throughout a day of moderate to heavy usage. The device also supports up to 40W fast charging. The only obvious downside is its lacking of 5G support.

Final Thoughts
Overall, we really like the design of the HUAWEI P50 Pocket. Everything from the textured rear panel to the additional 1.04-inch cover display, we like how HUAWEI has taken a bold approach of re-imagining the looks of a flip phone.
In terms of obvious downsides, the crease on the HUAWEI P50 Pocket is just as visible as it is on a Galaxy Z Fold3. Aside from that, the device is also lacking 5G support which will definitely be a concern to many.
