Huawei Mate X7: 8-inch foldable with 50MP variable aperture camera, priced at RM8,688
Huawei has debuted their latest flagship foldable smartphone in Malaysia, the Huawei Mate X7. This book-style foldable not only boasts a large display with a unique design, but also what are perhaps the best camera setup on any foldable smartphone out there.

The Huawei Mate X7 will be available in a single variant, with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, priced at RM8,688. You will be able to get it in Brocade White, Nebula Red and Classic Black colour options.
It is now available for pre-order from all Huawei Experience Stores, the Huawei Malaysia website, as well as their official stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop. Pre-orders will come with exclusive gifts worth up to RM7,597. which include a Huawei Watch 5, a Huawei MatePad 11.5, Huawei Care+ with 1-year 1-time screen protection and a trade-in rebate worth up to RM2,000.
Huawei Mate X7 specs and features
The Huawei Mate X7 features a large main 8-inch OLED display, pushing a 2416 x 2210p resolution, while when closed you’ll get a tall 2444 x 1080p OLED cover display. Both displays pack a 412ppi pixel density, as well as a 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate and 1440Hz high frequency PWM dimming. They also cover the full DCI-P3 colour gamut, as well as 25% lower power consumption.
Huawei says that they’ve engineered the Mate X7 to be tougher than before. The main display for instance has a carbon support layer, a UTG impact-resistant layer along with a non-newtonian fluid protective layer on the top, allowing it to be 100% more bend-resistant than its predecessor. The cover screen meanwhile gets Huawei’s Crystal Armour Kunlun Glass for scratch resistance. That’s on top of its IP59/IP58 dust and water resistance rating too. When folded, the Mate X7 measures just 9.5mm thick, and is 4.5mm unfolded. It also weighs in at just 236g.
Under the hood, you’ll find Huawei’s own Kirin 9030 Pro system-on-chip, mated to 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, running EMUI 15 out of the box. Keeping it cool is their ‘SuperCool Ultra-Large’ 3550mm² vapour chamber, along with graphene heat dissipation materials. There’s also a 5,600mAh battery with support for 66W wired Huawei SuperCharge fast charging along with 50W wireless SuperCharge fast charging, on top of 7.5W reverse wireless charging.
As for cameras, the Mate X7 features a triple rear camera setup. There’s a main 50MP, f/1.49-f.4.0 Ultra Lighting HDR camera with a ten-step adjustable aperture that uses a 1/1.28″ RYYB image sensor that Huawei says can take in 31% more light. That gets flanked by a 50MP, f/2.2 telephoto macro shooter offering a 3.5x optical zoom, alongside a 40MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera. Each display meanwhile also has an 8MP camera for selfies and video calls.
Design-wise, the Mate X7 draws heavy inspiration from brocade, with a light-woven brocade finish on the Brocade White colourway; the Mate X7 is also available in vegan leather black and red. The camera bump itself also boasts a ‘time-space gate’ design, which refers to the trim around the camera island. Other features of note include stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
