Huawei Mate 80 Pro: Kirin-powered flagship with upgraded cameras, priced at RM3,999
Having started the year with the Mate X7 foldable, Huawei has followed it up with the recent launch of the Mate 80 Pro. This marks a return for the candybar Mate series in Malaysia, with the last Mate smartphone in Malaysia before this being the Mate 50 Pro back in 2022.
The Huawei Mate 80 Pro features an aluminum alloy frame with a vegan fibre back panel, while the front gets a second generation Kunlun Glass that they claim is 20 times stronger than conventional glass panels. That glass protects the 6.75-inch OLED display, which pushes a 2832 by 1280 resolution for a pixel density of 460PPI, and is also capable of a 1-120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,000nits.
It comes powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 9030 Pro system-on-chip, with the 7nm processor mated to 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage. Of course, no Google Play services here so you get EMUI 15.0 out of the box and you can download apps natively via the Huawei AppGallery.
The star of the show here though is certainly the Mate 80 Pro’s cameras. Hardware-wise you’ll find a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP, f/1.4-4.0 variable aperture main camera, a 40MP, f/2.2 ultrawide and a 48MP, f/2.1 macro telephoto shooter that offers 4x optical zoom. You’ll also find an additional ‘True-to-Colour’ sensor that allows for better colour accuracy and tonal balance across different lighting conditions. Up front meanwhile is a 13MP, f/2.0 selfie shooter.
Other features of note include a 5,750mAh battery with support for 100W Huawei SuperCharge wired and 80W Huawei SuperCharge wireless charging, stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and an IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance rating.
The Huawei Mate 80 Pro comes in just a single configuration with the aforementioned 16GB memory and 512GB of storage, priced at RM3,999. Available in Gold, Green and Black, you can pre-order it already at any Huawei Experience Store, the Huawei Malaysia website as well as their official stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.
