HONOR Magic V3: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, thinner, lighter, retails at RM6,999

September 9, 2024

HONOR has thrown in their foldable contender of the year in the form of the Magic V3, which succeeds last year’s Magic V2.

For this year’s iteration, HONOR has made the Magic V3 lighter and thinner than before with the foldable now sporting a thickness of 9.2mm when folded and 4.35mm when unfolded (vs. 9.9mm and 4.7mm respectively on the V2). They’ve also managed to shave off 5 grams, with Magic V3 now having the lowest possible weight of 226 grams.

Thankfully, unlike the Magic V2 where we had to wait a good 6 months after the global launch for the device to land in Malaysia, the Magic V3 will reach our shores imminently.

HONOR Malaysia has announced that the Magic V3 will retail in the country at RM6,999. It is now up for pre-orders, along with early bird promos running until 12th September. During this period, pre-orders will come with 1-year screen protection, an HONOR Watch 4, an HONOR Magic-Pen, and an HONOR SuperCharge Wireless Charger Stand with support for 100W wireless charging.

Interested buyers can put their orders down on HONOR’s official website, or on HONOR’s platforms on Shopee and Lazada.

HONOR Magic V3 specs

The HONOR Magic V3 will run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired together with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.

For this year’s design, HONOR has done away with the vertically-aligned triple camera setup, perhaps as a strategic move to differentiate itself from the Samsung Z Fold series. In its place is what HONOR calls an Octagon Dome design, which houses the 50MP 1/1.56″ main wide camera, 50MP 1/2.51″ periscope telescope camera with 3.5x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom, and 40MP ultra-wide camera.

Like the mid-range 200 Pro, the Magic V3 will come with a range of creative Harcourt Filters.

For front cameras, there are 20MP selfie shooters located on both the internal and external displays.

Talking of displays, the Magic V3’s external display is a 6.43″ OLED LTPO panel, offering 2376×1060 resolution and variable refresh rates from 1-120Hz. According to HONOR, peak brightness reaches up to 5,000nits.

When unfolded, the phone reveals a 7.92″ OLED LTPO panel with 2344×2156 resolution, 120Hz refresh rates, and a significantly lower peak brightness of 1,800nits.

Keeping the device running is a 5,150mAh silicon carbon battery supporting 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Along with upgrades in hardware, you can also expect AI features powered by Google, including AI Eraser, Inter-Translation (English, Malay, and Chinese included), and Voice-to-Text notes.

The HONOR Magic V3 is available in three designs: Mossy Green, Silk Brown, and Classic Black.
