Here’s everything you can claim for tax relief in 2026

It’s tax season guys, and we know it might be a bit challenging for some of you out there to go through all the red tape. That’s why we’ve made this cheat sheet for our readers to crosscheck which tax reliefs they’re eligible for, so that you can get back as much of your hard earned money as possible.

We’ll separate them by their main category, followed by the amount for each specific tax relief and what can be put under them, starting with:

Individual and family tax reliefs

RM9,000

  • Individual

RM7,000

  • Disabled individual

RM6,000

  • Purchase of basic supporting equipment for disabled self, spouse, child or parent

RM10,000

  • Medical expenses for serious diseases for self, spouse or child
  • Fertility treatment for self or spouse
  • Vaccination for self, spouse or child (up to RM1,000)
  • Dental treatment (up to RM1,000)
  • Complete medical examinations, mental health checks, disease detection kits (e.g. Covid-19 kits), self-health monitoring equipment for self, spouse or child (up to RM1,000)
  • Intellectual disability assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation treatment and early intervention programs for child aged 18 and below (up to RM6,000)

RM8,000

  • Medical, dental and special needs treatments for parents and grandparents
  • Complete medical examination for parents and grandparents (up to RM1,000)

RM2,000

  • Each unmarried child under 18

RM2,000

  • Each unmarried child over 18 in full time studies (A-Level, matriculation, preparatory courses)

RM8,000

  • Each unmarried child over 18 studying for a diploma or higher in Malaysia
  • Each unmarried child over 18 studying for a degree or higher outside of Malaysia

  • Child care fees for children aged 6 and below

  • Breastfeeding equipment for own use with child aged 2 and below

  • Disabled spouse

  • Disabled child

  • Disabled child aged 18 and above, unmarried and studying for either a diploma and higher in Malaysia, or a degree and higher outside Malaysia

Education tax reliefs

  • Education fees for masters and doctorate level degrees
  • Education fees for tertiary studies covering law, accounting, Islamic financing, technical, vocational, industrial, scientific and technological qualifications
  • Upskilling and self-enhancement courses (up to RM2,000)

Lifestyle tax reliefs

RM2,500

  • Books, magazines, newspapers (physical and digital, purchases and subscriptions)
  • Computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet
  • Your monthly bill for internet access
  • Skill improvement and personal development courses

RM2,500

  • EV charging facilities and fees
  • Domestic food waste composting machine

RM1,000

  • Sports equipment for sports defined under Sports Development Act 1997
  • Rental and entrance fees to sports facilities
  • Registration fees for approved sports competitions
  • Gym membership fees

Insurance and contributions tax reliefs

  • Mandatory EPF contributions (up to RM4,000)
  • Life insurance premium, family takaful contributions, additional voluntary contributions to EPF (up to RM3,000)
