Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA6) delayed to May 26, 2026, confirms Rockstar Games

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will be delayed, confirmed official publisher Rockstar Games. The Grand Theft Auto franchise is one of the most popular video game series worldwide, with the most recent instalment – Grand Theft Auto V – released way back in 2013.

In 2023, Rockstar Games released the trailer for GTA 6, which later became the most-viewed video game reveal on YouTube within 24 hours, amassing 90,421,491 views. At the time, GTA 6 was slated for a 2025 release.

Fast forward to today, and word is officially out: the release of the highly awaited, long-anticipated GTA 6 has been pushed back to May 26, 2026 (yes, 2026 – no, it’s not a typo).

In a statement, Rockstar Games apologized for the delay: “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”

Though the publisher did not reveal specific reasons for the delay, it stated that “the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception”, and that “we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

Following the announcement came a flurry of memes and jokes, which will likely continue until the game is actually released. Looks like we’re in for more “We got [x] before GTA 6” jokes.
