Google’s New Virtual Try-On Feature Is Going to Solve Your Online Shopping Dilemma

Ever bought a piece of clothing online that just didn’t meet expectations? Well, it seems Google has recognized this problem and is attempting to solve it with AI.
The Google I/O 2025 served as a platform for Google to showcase a slew of upcoming AI-powered features. Out of all the demonstrations, the one that stole attention was the virtual “Try it on” feature.
It is exactly as the name implies. Google’s new AI-powered shopping tool lets users generate a photo of themselves in a desired outfit while they’re browsing on the Shopping tab.

Based on the walk-through, it’s as easy as tapping a “Try it on” pop-up button that will appear at the bottom of the product image. You will be required to upload a full-length photo of yourself, ideally with a clean background. Google says that its custom-built image generation model powering this feature is specifically trained for fashion and will adapt the clothing to different poses.

Once you’ve decided to purchase, you can set a price range you’re willing to pay. Google will then monitor the item and notify you when the price drops within your target range. A push notification will be sent when this happens.

Based on the demo, it looks like this virtual Try-on feature will only be available natively on Google’s Shopping tabs. It’s unclear whether it will support third-party apps like Shopee, Lazada, and Temu.
The virtual Try-it-on feature isn’t available just yet. Google says it will roll out in the coming months, but U.S. consumers can start trying on different looks in Search Labs starting today.
