Google One Lite arrives in Malaysia, offering 30GB storage for RM3.50 monthly

Google has officially expanded its cloud storage lineup in Malaysia with the introduction of Google One Lite. This new entry-level tier is designed specifically for users who find the standard 15GB free limit too restrictive but do not yet require the massive capacity of higher-tier plans. Malaysia joins markets like India in receiving this budget-friendly option, which sits directly below the existing Basic plan.

For a monthly fee of RM3.50, Google One Lite provides 30GB of cloud storage, doubling the default capacity provided to all Google accounts. This shared storage applies across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos, making it an ideal choice for users primarily looking to secure more space for email attachments, documents, and essential photo backups without committing to a larger 100GB plan.

In terms of pricing, Google is offering an annual subscription for a promotional rate of RM35, though this will eventually normalize to RM42. While it offers a significant storage boost, the Lite plan remains a basic offering. It excludes the advanced AI capabilities found in higher tiers, such as Gemini 3 Pro access, NotebookLM integration, or the Veo 3.1 video generation tools reserved for the AI Plus and Pro plans.
The introduction of the Lite tier significantly lowers the barrier to entry for paid cloud services in Malaysia. Compared to the Basic plan’s RM8.49 monthly rate for 100GB, the Lite plan offers a streamlined, affordable alternative for casual users. This update ensures that Google One remains competitive by providing a diverse range of options, from RM3.50 for light users to RM97.99 for AI professionals.
