Global PlayStation 5 price hike in April, Malaysia set to follow soon?

Sony has announced a global price increase for its PlayStation hardware lineup, citing ongoing pressures in the global economic landscape. The price adjustment will affect the PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro and the PlayStation Portal remote player.
According to Sony, the decision was made after “careful evaluation” to ensure the company can continue delivering high-quality gaming experiences worldwide, despite rising costs. The updated recommended retail prices will take effect starting 2 April 2026 across several key markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, and Japan. For context, in the US, the PlayStation 5 Disc and Digital are going up by $100, and the PS5 Pro is set to go up by $150.

At the time of writing, Sony has not officially confirmed updated pricing for Malaysia. The Sony Malaysia website still shows the old pricing for their consoles, however only the regular PlayStation 5 Disc has stock.

That being said, given that the price hike is being implemented globally, it is very likely that local prices will be adjusted soon. Malaysian retailers typically follow Sony’s regional pricing changes, so gamers planning to pick up a PS5 might want to pull the trigger before the new prices take effect here.
