Many Malaysians know and trust Proton. The brand builds cars that suit our roads and daily needs. Now, with support from its global partner Geely, Proton may soon receive a major upgrade powered by satellite technology from space.

Geely’s Satellite Launch Is a First for the Automotive World

In August 2025, Geely launched 11 more satellites into Earth’s orbit. This brings the total to 41 satellites in space. By the end of the year, Geely plans to increase that number to 72. The satellite network is called the Future Mobility Constellation. It is designed to support smart mobility systems for vehicles, not for regular telecom or broadcasting use.

Geely is now the first car company in the world to build and operate its own satellite system.

How Can Satellites Help Your Car?

Geely’s satellites bring three key benefits to cars:

  • More accurate GPS navigation
The car tracks your location more precisely, even when you drive through tunnels, forests, or high-rise areas. It stays on course without delay.
  • Better in-car connection
Your maps, apps, and music continue to work smoothly, even when mobile signal is weak. The car uses satellite data to stay connected.
  • Faster and safer driving features
Systems like lane assist, cruise control, and emergency braking respond quicker. They use live data from satellites to help you drive more safely.

Proton Could Use This Soon

Since Proton belongs to the Geely group, this new satellite technology will not stay in China. Proton is in a strong position to bring it to Malaysia, making us one of the first countries in Southeast Asia to use it.

We may see it appear in these Proton models first:

  • Proton eMAS series
Proton is building this upcoming electric vehicle lineup on Geely’s smart platform. It is expected to support satellite features from the very beginning.
  • Proton X70 and X90
Proton may also update these popular models in the future. New versions could include satellite-based features powered by Geely’s system.

What This Means for Malaysian Drivers

With this new system, Proton drivers in Malaysia could soon enjoy:

  • GPS navigation that stays accurate and smooth, even in hard-to-reach areas
  • Live traffic updates that help avoid jams and delays
  • Automatic updates installed while the car is parked at home
  • A safer and more connected drive, whether in the city or on the highway

Most importantly, all of this technology could be available at a price that everyday Malaysians can afford. It is not something usually found in cars with such advanced features.

Looking Ahead

Geely has taken a big step toward building smarter cars by launching its own satellites. Proton is now ready to bring this advanced technology to roads across Malaysia.

Your next Proton will not only be proudly built in Malaysia. It may also use satellite support from space to guide your journey, keep you safe, and improve your driving experience every day.
