Galaxy S23 Series unveiled Big camera upgrades for Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung has unveiled the new Galaxy S23 series in its recent Galaxy Unpacked event. The event was broadcasted live on Samsung’s YouTube channel in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

As revealed by Samsung, the Galaxy S23 lineup will consist of the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. All three sports a very similar look to the S22 models of last year. The Galaxy S23 and S23+ keeps its rounded edges with three vertically aligned cameras. The Galaxy S23 Ultra still takes after the squarish design inspired by the Galaxy Note.

As with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, only the Galaxy S23 Ultra will come with an S Pen.

Here’s a brief look at what the Galaxy S23 series offers.

Custom-designed Snapdragon processor

The Galaxy S23 series will utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy, regarded as the “world’s fastest Snapdragon ever.” The CPU is made up of 8 cores – 5 high performance cores, and 3 high-efficiency cores – that will grant you seamless multitasking.

In addition, Samsung claims that an improved GPU fitted onto the S23 series is approximately 41% faster than the previous S22 series. The upgrade will enhance overall gaming experience through its PC-like graphics.

Improved Pro-grade Cameras

Samsung has dedicated a significant chunk of its improvements to the S23 Ultra’s camera. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature a 200MP main wide camera, almost double from the 108MP on last year’s S22 Ultra. Accompanying the wide camera is: a 10MP (f/2.4) telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, a 10MP (f/4.9) telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera.

Additionally, an Advanced Image Sensor fitted into the Galaxy S23 Ultra now allows 4K 60fps recording on both the rear and front cameras.

Samsung has doubled down on it’s ‘Nightography’ feature. Video Nightography promises to be more stable due to the 2x Wider Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology. This improvement will give users more stability even under shaky circumstances. Photo Nightography on the other hand will draw on an AI ISP algorithm for accurate colour tones and minimal noise despite dim lighting conditions.

Bigger batteries for better binging

The smaller Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ will see a bump in the battery department. The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ now boasts a 3,900mAh and 4,700mAh battery respectively. This is a decent step up compared to the 3,700mAh and 4,500mAh battery of its predecessors. The improvements in battery now gives 22 hours of video playback to the Galaxy S23, while the Galaxy S23+ will have 27 hours of video playback.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra on the other hand will maintain a 5,000mAh battery.

45W fast charging is available in the Galaxy S23+ and S23 Ultra. Fast charging on the Galaxy S23 will remain at 25W.
