EV Charging Points As Works Of Art

By Timothy Teoh May 19, 2024

Andersen EV produces hand-made charge points in the UK for Porsche and JLR vehicles. And the introduction of their new A3 EV charge point comes in a wide range of new colour and finish options. It’s the company’s attempt to simplify charging at home with a “designer-like” package.

The A3 is far cooler than most other wall mounted EV charge points and is convincing enough to look like it’s part of the decor. Its launch is being celebrated with a special-edition fascia produced by automotive design house CALLUM Design, which is led by Ian Callum CBE, former design director at Jaguar Land Rover.

CALLUM Design’s front fascia helps boost the overall appeal of each A3. Unlike the usual beige, functional look of most EV charging points, Andersen EV’s solution resembles a work of art.

Its bespoke front fascia has a textured wood panel with unique patterns that play with the signature CALLUM tartan. The Cotswold Oak gives it a raw yet classy feel that is simply non-existent among today’s EV chargers. Overall, the A3 is 20% smaller than the current A2 model, which is the UK’s most popular premium home charge unit.

“The new A3 offers something entirely new in the domestic charge point sector, thanks to its compact proportions, premium-grade minimalist aesthetics and advanced technologies,” said David Martell, CEO of Andersen EV.

Ian Callum CBE, Director of Design at CALLUM Designs added, “As a design-led, British brand, CALLUM has a natural alignment with Andersen EV. We share the value that a functional product can also be beautiful and meaningful to the owner.”

When not in use, the A3’s cable can be tucked away in the charging unit, which Andersen EV says is unique to their products. It also has an advanced solar feature that allows you to manage the solar energy generated from panels on the roof to be redistributed for charging purposes.

The company has also given it an updated version of the A2’s user interface, more intuitive LED status indication, presence sensor, convenience light located on the underside and theater lightning that activates when the lid is lifted to illuminate the cable location. A smartphone app allows you to schedule and track energy usage.

As for charging ability, the A3 can charge an EV at 7kW with a 5.5 cable while the A2 offers up to 22kW with up to an 8.5m cable. To coincide with the launch of the A3, Andersen EV has expanded its colour range of both charging solutions to over 240 different choices.

Andersen EV offers the A3 at a starting price of £995 (RM5,925) while the A2 starts at £1,199 (RM7,140).
