Here’s our database of all the potential numbers used by scammers in Malaysia

By Timothy Teoh April 09, 2025

This article was last updated on 4th April 2025. We’ll be compiling this list as we receive more scam calls.

If you are a reader from Newswav, we recommend visiting our official page to view the article in its original format: List of Scam Call Numbers in Malaysia

Ever received a shady phone call with just dead air? Or maybe even a sketchy text message from a “bank” notifying you of “expiring reward points”? So have we, and frankly, we’re sick of it. While there’s not much we can do except block the numbers and file a report, we can at least cross check some of the questionable numbers and text message that we’ve personally received.

Scam calls are surging at an alarming rate. In 2024, it was reported that scam calls in Malaysia skyrocketed to 2.98 million, rising from 1.63 million from the previous year. The situation is made worse by culprits now utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to develop new tactics, including deepfake videos of high-profile celebrities and politicians such as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Malaysians need to be hypervigilant in order to avoid being in an unwanted position. Here, we’ve compiled a list of suspicious numbers and messages that you may have received (or will receive in the future) to assure you that you aren’t walking into a trap.

PS. If you pick up a call with dead air, it means the call might be made using an automated dialing system. Scammers often use this as a first wave to identify active numbers, after which a targeted approach will be made to trick unsuspecting victims.
