Could DJI Launch a Transparent ROMO Robovac This August?

By Timothy Teoh July 29, 2025

DJI, a brand largely renowned for its line of consumer drones, has made a bold step by venturing into robovacs. This comes after almost two months of speculation and whisperings, fueled by leaked box packaging of the DJI ROMO.

These reports, in the end, struck the bullseye. DJI themselves have confirmed the upcoming launch of the ROMO vacuum, slated to be unveiled on 6 August in China.

DJI is no longer keeping the ROMO’s design under wraps, as the official Chinese website has plastered the ROMO all over its front page. Based on the poster, the DJI ROMO will come with a docking station, likely for self-cleaning and self-emptying functions.

But the one thing that stole our attention is that, while there was an all-white docking station, next to it was one with a completely translucent casing that reveals the inner mechanisms of the station. Before we get excited about the prospect of a Nothing-esque vacuum design, we’re still unclear whether the transparent ROMO depicted is simply a marketing stunt to show off the station’s guts, or if a transparent model is part of the line-up.

We’d love nothing more than to see a transparent robovac hit the market, but until we get confirmation on 6 August, we’ll keep our excitement in check.

The transparent graphic does give us some insights into the ROMO, though. For one, the dust bag compartment all but confirms a self-emptying function. However, there doesn’t seem to be a water storage compartment that would hint at 2-in-1 mopping – at least not at the front portion.

As for the robovac itself, it looks like there will be two circular sweeping brushes, which is now common in most robovacs like the eufy Omni E25 we recently tested. The front sensors also point toward LiDAR mapping, another common feature in robovacs, but we have high hopes that DJI’s expertise in drones could elevate these sensors beyond what other robovacs offer.

At this point, the DJI ROMO will debut in China. From what we’ve heard, the ROMO is intended for a mass audience and could see a launch in key regions globally. Given DJI’s strong presence in Malaysia, reinforced by its first two-storey Experience Store at Low Yat Park, we could very well see the ROMO navigate to Malaysia in due time.
