DJI ROMO Leak Hints at Self-Emptying, Obstacle-Aware Smart Vacuum

DJI, best known globally—and in Malaysia—for its drones, appears to be taking a sharp new turn into the smart home category. According to a report by South China Morning Post, the Shenzhen-based company is poised to release its first robot vacuum cleaner, expected to be called the DJI ROMO.
Leaked images circulating on Reddit show packaging for the new device, revealing that the ROMO will be a vacuum-mop hybrid that has been in development for four years. Based on what’s visible, DJI is bringing several advanced features to the table. The ROMO includes an auto self-emptying system, suggesting it will be able to return to its dock and clear its dustbin without user intervention—now a standard expectation in high-end robot vacuums.

The ROMO will also feature obstacle avoidance through the use of six depth-of-field sensors, which should help it navigate complex home environments more precisely. It is reportedly compatible with a companion app—though which app has yet to be confirmed—offering standard features such as mapping, AI-assisted cleaning modes, scheduled cleaning times, and zone-specific cleaning.

While pricing and full specifications remain under wraps, the ROMO seems positioned to challenge premium-tier offerings from Roborock, Dreame, and iRobot. With Roborock leading the global robovac market at 16% market share, and iRobot, Ecovacs, Xiaomi, and Dreame rounding out the top five, DJI will need to carve out a compelling niche to gain traction.
As of now, there is no official confirmation that the DJI ROMO will be launched in Malaysia. DJI continues to be a household name in the country primarily due to its dominance in the drone space, but it remains to be seen whether its foray into the robovac market will reach local shores. Availability, pricing, and launch promotions have not been announced at the time of writing.
