DJI FPV Drone Now Available for RM5,299

March 3, 2021

DJI has just released the world’s first ready-to-fly FPV drone and is available for RM5,299. For those who are unfamiliar with FPV drones, it basically stands for first-person-view drones.

FPV drones are typically used for racing or capturing adventure sports like motocross, cycling and more. An FPV drone grants its pilot unlimited flight control which allows them to fully unleash their skills and imagination.

Aside from its control, another key difference between FPV drones and other drones are in their acceleration and top speed. The DJI FPV drone has a max speed of 140km/h and an astounding acceleration of 0-100km/h in 2 seconds.

Back in 2019, DJI released the DJI Digital FPV System which consists of the DJI FPV Air Unit Module, DJI FPV Camera, DJI FPV Goggles, and DJI FPV Remote Controller, all of which are packed with powerful features and serve a significant role in the development of our HD Low Latency FPV system.

However, the DJI Digital FPV System still requires drone pilots to manually attach it to an existing racing drone and have it configured properly before being able to fly.

With the launch of the DJI FPV Drone, drone ethusiast around the world will be able to enjoy experience of flying an FPV drone minus the hassle.

A closer look at the DJI FPV Drone

At RM5,299, the DJI FPV Drone comes complete with everything you need to get started and more! You’ll get the DJI FPV Goggles V2 and a brand new controller which has added features that allow pilots to adjust the pitch of the drone camera as well as enter full manual flight mode.

What’s not included however is the DJI Motion Controller. This controller introduces a new and unique way of flying drones. It allows pilots to manoeuvre the drone using wrist rotations. It is important to note that the DJI Motion Controller does not support manual flight mode.

There’s a whole lot to unpack in regards to the DJI FPV specifications. But perhaps what’s most worth noting are the following:

  1. Acceleration and max speed:
The DJI FPV has an impressive max speed of 140km/h which is just slightly slower than a typical racing drone which can hit top speeds of 190+ km/h. On top of that, it is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 2 seconds.
  1. Battery Life
While most racing drones have a flight time of around 6 minutes, the DJI FPV can support up to 20 minutes of flight time (depending on wind conditions and flying mode). With a bigger battery, videographers and pilots can reduce the number of spare batteries. Additionally, the DJI goggles can support up to 110 minutes of usage per charge.
  1. Video recording quality
Flight performance aside, the DJI FPV maintains its strength in video output. You will still be able to shoot wonderful 4k steady shots on the FPV drone.

Additionally, a lower resolution video can be captured and stored directly on the goggles. This is especially helpful in the event the drone crashes, you’ll have backup footage to review.

3. Built-in Flight Simulator

The FPV drone does require a fair bit of training and practice before one is truly ready to take flight. With a built-in flight simulator, users can practice and get familiar with the flight controls before putting them into action.

Final Thoughts:

We are truly impressed with the overall design and functions of the DJI FPV Drone. Although it is priced at RM5,299, we do believe that it will become the most widely used drone moving forward due to its versatility.

While its focus is still on shooting quality footages, it could very well serve the drone racing community as an entry-level drone as it removes a lot of the hassle that comes with building a custom racing drone.
