How to Connect Phone to TV with Apple and Android

Streaming movies and TV shows on our smartphones is convenient, and we can watch them whenever and wherever, but when you’re at home, you might want to enjoy your streaming on the big screen. All you need to do is connect your phone to a TV.

The question is, how? Well, we’ve got the answers. Here is how you can connect your phone to a TV with your iPhone or Android.

Connect Phone to TV: Apple

Step 1: To connect your iPhone to a TV, you’d need an Apple TV or an AirPlay-compatible TV. Some compatible TVs are the LG 65” NANO95 and the Samsung 65” QLED 8K. Make sure to connect your iPhone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network.

Step 2: Go to your iPhone’s Control Centre – swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen, or swipe up from the bottom of the screen if your iPhone came before iPhone X. Next, tap the Screen Mirroring icon.

Step 3: You’ll now see a list of compatible devices. Select your TV model, then enter the passcode that’ll appear on the TV into your iPhone if prompted.

Step 4: Your TV will now mirror your iPhone screen. Whatever activity on your iPhone will show on your TV too.

Step 5: To disconnect your iPhone, go to Control Centre, tap on the Screen Mirroring icon, then select Stop Mirroring.

Or you can stream videos from apps like YouTube using the AirPlay function instead of mirroring your iPhone screen. To do so:

Step 1: Select and open the video you’d like to stream.

Step 2: Click on the streaming icon, then select your TV model.

Connect Phone to TV: Android

Option 1: Connect your Android with the Google Chromecast. Chromecast allows you to mirror your smartphone’s display or stream media to your TV. Plugin the Chromecast’s HDMI connector or USB power cable to your TV, then pair it with your Android to set it up. Go to the Quick Settings menu to stream media or cast your screen, then tap on the Cast command.

Option 2: Wirelessly connect your Android with Amazon’s Fire Stick. It essentially works the same way as Google Chromecast. Note: You need an Amazon account; an Amazon Prime account would be even better. Also, if you have a 4K TV, you’d need Fire TV Stick 4K as the regular one doesn’t support 4K output.

Option 3: Use a wireless HDMI system called Miracast. Most modern TVs, Blu-ray players and media centres are Miracast compatible, or it’s built-in. However, if that fails, you can connect a Miracast dongle to your TV instead. To connect your Android using Miracast, go to Settings, select Device connection, then tap on Screen mirroring.

Option 4: Connect your phone to the TV with a USB to HDMI converter. Remember to check that the converter is compatible with your smartphone brand. When searching for a converter online, type your device’s brand as well.
