CIMB to Implement Mandatory eKYC Verification for OCTO App Users Starting 6 October 2025

Effective 6 October 2025, CIMB will require all new and existing OCTO App users to complete an electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification when performing a First Time Login (FTL) on a new or reset device.
This move is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to enhance online banking security and curb fraudulent activity, aligning with regulatory measures aimed at combating financial scams. The additional verification step is expected to provide an added layer of protection for customers using the mobile banking app.
When performing a First Time Login (FTL) on the CIMB OCTO App, there will be a mandatory 12-hour cooling-off period before access is granted. Once this period ends, users will receive an SMS notification confirming that they can proceed to log in.
As part of the process, users must complete electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification, which involves document verification and facial recognition.
This verification is designed to be simple, secure, and fully online. At present, the eKYC process only supports MyKad as a valid identification document. Users with non-supported IDs will need to visit the nearest CIMB branch to complete their KYC verification in person.
