Christmas Gift Idea: Limited-Edition Tamiya GR Yaris R/C Car
We have already reached the tail end of the year. The start of November usually signals the beginning of the Christmas preparations for every household. It’s especially difficult to think of gift ideas for automotive enthusiasts. Collecting Cars may have something that might be of interest to them.
It has partnered with Japanse R/C and model kit brand Tamiya to produce a limited-edition of the Tamiya GR Yaris radio-controlled (R/C) model. Only 25 examples will be produced, which should make it a highly collectable item for enthusiasts.
The model follows the Collecting Cars’ fullsize Toyota GR Yaris meant to pay homage to Tamiya’s iconic Sand Scorcher. The company has also created a video to showcase both cars’ abilities with professional racing driver, Jake Hill.
Toyota’s GR Yaris is a performance focused hot hatch. It’s powered by a 1.6-litre (224kW), three cylinder turbo engine that is mated to a 4WD drivetrain. It’s designed to cater to a variety of drivers, allowing them to experience a rally car-like precision in a manageable vehicle.
Tamiya’s GR Yaris R/C is built on the company’s proven M-05 chassis and uses a lightweight semi-monocoque resin frame. It has a low centre of gravity, which improves handling and offers better stability.
Besides this, the car also has a double wishbone suspension for all four wheels as well as front and rear friction dampers. Tamiya has designed the car for easy assembly, allowing owners to set it up and start having fun in no time at all. It’s being marketed as being perfect for enthusiasts of all ages.
Edward Lovett, Founder and CEO of Collecting Cars, said: “The Toyota GR Yaris has become a standout within the Collecting Cars community, and this Tamiya model captures the excitement of both the real car and the beloved R/C classic – a reflection of everything we love about the GR Yaris, both in full size and in miniature.”
The Sand Scorcher, is an iconic R/C model that was introduced in 1979. It features a waterproof design and robust metal components. This car was reintroduced in 2010 as a 30th-anniversary model. Tamiya’s GR Yaris R/C car pays homage to the original 1/10 scale vehicle.
Each of the 25 examples come with a bespoke Collecting Cars ‘Sand Scorcher’ sticker pack that should add to its overall appeal. It is being priced at £325 and can be purchased on a first-come, first-served basis (world wide deliveries available) at the Collecting Cars shop: shop.collectingcars.com.
