ChatGPT Atlas Browser Debuts with Built-In ChatGPT and Memory Features

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, a new web browser that comes with ChatGPT built directly into it. Designed to work like a typical browser but with added AI support, Atlas aims to offer a more personalised experience by helping users understand and complete tasks based on what they’re doing online.
On the surface, Atlas works like any other browser—you can search and open tabs as usual. But what sets it apart is a built-in ChatGPT sidebar that users can open at any time. This sidebar can respond to questions related to the page you’re on or assist with tasks such as summarising content, explaining terms, or comparing information.

The browser also supports more complex actions. Users can ask Atlas to fill up a shopping cart with ingredients from a recipe, retrieve information from previous team documents, carry out basic competitor research, or compile insights into a team brief—all without switching between tools.

Atlas includes memory features that let ChatGPT recall past browsing activity. For example, typing “reopen shoes I looked at yesterday” will bring back previously visited pages. The browser uses this context to make follow-up tasks easier. OpenAI also states that memory is optional—users can view, manage, or delete their data anytime.

ChatGPT Atlas is now available worldwide, but only on macOS for now. It supports all ChatGPT account types—Free, Plus, Pro, and Go. Versions for Windows, iOS, and Android are in development and expected to roll out in future updates.
