CelcomDigi teams up with MRA and Red Crescent to aid Malaysians affected by floods
CelcomDigi has recently announced that they have activated its nationwide flood relief efforts in light of recent floods happening across Malaysia. They’ve partnered up with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) and the Malaysian Red Cross (MRC) to ensure affected Malaysians remain safe, connected and supported.
Together with the MRA and MRC, CelcomDigi says that they’ve begun delivering essential aid and connectivity solutions to several temporary relief centers, also known as Pusat Pemindahan Sementara or PPS. Overall, the telco estimates it will benefit over 50,000 Malaysians affected by the floods, with 60 charging stations and 80 WiFi units across relief centers in eight states helping keep people connected with their loved ones.
CelcomDigi adds that their 24/7 operations teams are on standby too to swiftly deploy power generators to base stations in flood-hit area. They’ve also activated their Flash-SMS broadcast, enhanced with AI-powered postcode targeting, to quickly alert customers currently in areas at risk of flooding. Over 5.1 million Flash-SMSes have been broadcast to date.
On top of that, they’re assisting the MRA with four-wheel drive vehicles, rescue boats and volunteers to help those stranded in flooded areas. The telco also provided essential household and personal supplies to relief centers, while some CelcomDigi employees have taken it upon themselves to help out too by contributing cooking essentials and food packs.
CelcomDigi is continuing to work with the government and relevant agencies for further coordinated relief efforts. They add that they’ve readied its resources and employees to support more Malaysians nationwide in this time of need.
