Canon EOS R8 Mark II Launched in Malaysia: Full-Frame Power Meets Compact Design for creators
Canon Marketing Malaysia has officially announced the EOS R8 Mark II, a compact 24.2-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera designed for hybrid storytellers and content creators.

Hands-On Experience: Created To Explore Tour
To celebrate the release, Canon hosted the Created To Explore – EOS R8 Mark II Experience Tour 2026 at The Grounds KL, bringing together Malaysia’s vibrant creative community. Attendees got to test the camera across five specially curated shooting scenes and attend an in-depth product sharing session.
Industry experts Marcus Choo (Canon EOS Specialist), ZY Cheng (Content Creator), and Johnson Wee (Canon EOS Master) were on hand to share practical workflow insights, visual storytelling approaches, and creative techniques with local photographers and videographers.

Canon EOS R8 Mark II Key Specs & Feature Upgrades
The EOS R8 Mark II brings several higher-end features into Canon’s smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless body with In-Body IS, weighing approximately 546g:
- 24.2MP Full-Frame Sensor: Powered by the DIGIC X processor, offering wider angles of view, rich bokeh, and clean low-light performance.
- 5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilisation: Delivers up to 7.5 stops of Coordinated Control IS when combined with optical IS RF lenses.
- Added Multi-Controller Joystick: Provides rapid autofocus point adjustment directly from the rear panel while using the electronic viewfinder.
- Fast AF & 40fps Burst Rate: Uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with Register People Priority for tracking specific individuals in crowds, supporting up to 40fps continuous shooting.
- Pro Video Features: Captures 6K-oversampled 4K video at 60p, Full HD high frame rate at 180p, and supports Canon Log 3 with Custom LUTs.
- In-Camera Picture Styles: Debuts new “NegativeFilmtone” and “PositiveFilmtone” color filters alongside a movie mode Background Blur shortcut.

Editorial Thoughts
For aspiring Malaysian creators looking to step up to a full-frame system, the EOS R8 Mark II offers solid value by fixing major omissions from its predecessor—specifically adding 5-axis IBIS and an AF joystick.
During my quick hands-on at the event, I found the camera very ergonomic in terms of its body design, and could take photos very quickly. I was most impressed by its half shutter which takes a few frames before you full click for your shot so that you really will not miss the shot.
A few things to note before you buy:
Battery Life: The camera uses the compact LP-E17 battery, so budgeting for a couple of extra batteries or a USB-C power bank for extended shooting days is essential.
Storage Cards: To take full advantage of 6K-oversampled 4K 60p video and 40fps burst shooting, you will need fast UHS-II SD cards.
Lens Ecosystem: While the body is light and portable, high-grade full-frame RF lenses will add to both weight and cost, so plan your overall budget carefully.
