ASUS Zenbook S 16 with Ryzen AI processor now up for pre-orders

By Timothy Teoh July 1, 2024

On the same day they announced the availability of the Vivobook S 15 (S5507) in Malaysia, ASUS also unveiled their latest addition to the Zenbook series, the Zenbook S 16 (UM5606).

The new Zenbook is treading new grounds by being the slimmest 16-inch laptop from ASUS, as well as having bragging rights as one of the first few to incorporate an AI-enabled processor from the AMD Ryzen Strix Point series. More specifically, the flagship Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.

The use of AI-ready processors ensures the Zenbook S 16 is capable of powering through modern AI applications when it goes into full flow, with one of these being Microsoft Copilot. In fact, the Zenbook even has a dedicated Copilot key for instant access to the AI tool.

Helping in performance is the Radeon 890M GPU, along with 32GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB SSD.

The Zenbook S 16 is also where you’ll find ASUS’ newly developed Ceraluminum chassis – which is essentially aluminium fused with ceramic – giving it the rigidity and lightness its being marketed for.

There’s no surprises in terms of displays with the Zenbook S 16 utilizing a 16.3″ ASUS Lumina OLED touch screen panel offering 3K (2880 x 1880) resolution and 120Hz refresh rates. Its display has 100% DCI-P3 coverage, and are Pantone Validated.

On the auditory side, there’s a 6-speaker Harman Kardon-certified audio system consisting of two high-frequency tweeters and four low-frequency woofers, capable of supporting Dolby Atmos sound.

Moreover, the laptop runs on a 78Wh battery.

You’ll have a slew of ports to utilize, including 2x USB4 Type-C, 1x USB 3.2 Type-A, 1x HDMI 2.1, 1x SD card reader, and an audio jack. In terms of connectivity, the Zenbook S 16 supports up to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

There’s a choice of Zumaia Grey or Scandinavian White for colour options.

The Zenbook S 16 (UM5606) will officially retail off the shelves for RM7,999 from 29 July 2024. In the meantime, the laptop is already up for pre-order, with the pre-order period lasting until 9 July 2024. Purchases within this period will come with freebies worth RM698, which includes a 4-port 100W GaN USB charger worth RM499 and a 1-year extended warranty worth RM199.

You can pre-order the Zenbook S 16 exclusively on the ASUS eStore, or on ASUS’ official store on Shopee.

OPPO Reno 12 Series 5G – aka the ‘AI Phone’ – now available in Malaysia; Price starts at RM2,199

By Timothy Teoh June 28, 2024

It’s perhaps too early to determine what exactly is an ‘AI Phone’, but OPPO has already staked claim to the name with their latest OPPO Reno 12 Series launch.

As you might have guessed, the new OPPO Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro both come with a slew of AI capabilities. These include AI Eraser 2.0 to remove unwanted objects/persons in photos and AI Best Face to ‘magically reopen’ eyes if you’re caught mid-blink. Other AI functions worth mentioning is AI Clear Voice, AI Speak (get AI to read you an article), and AI Writer (recommends writing suggestions).

These are just a few of the AI features you’ll find on either models in the Reno 12 Series, which, by the way, is already available in Malaysia.

As for pricing, the OPPO Reno12 retails at RM2,199, while the OPPO Reno 12 Pro retails at RM2,599. There will be a first sale promo running from 27 June to 7 July.

Within this period, purchases of the Reno12 will come with gifts worth RM368, including a pair of Enco Buds2, 1-year screen protection warranty, and RM100 rebate. As for the Reno12 Pro, you’ll be entitled to a pair of Enco Air3 along with the same screen protection warranty and RM100 rebate.

    OPPO Reno12 Series 5G specs

Starting off first with the base Reno12, this model runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset, helped by 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.

It sports a 6.7″ AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2412 x 1080) resolution, 120Hz refresh rates, and 1,200nits peak brightness – all protected under Gorilla Glass Victus 7i.

You’ll find a triple camera setup on the rear panel which consists of a 50MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. Elsewhere at the front is a 32MP selfie camera with Autofocus.

The Reno12 packs a 5,000mAh battery supporting 80W wired charging.

You’ll have the choice of either Astro Silver and Matte Brown.

You’ll find much of the same specs on the upscaled Reno12 Pro. It’s powered by the Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset, along with the same 12GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration.

Displays too are of similar size sporting AMOLED panels, Full HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rates and 1,200nits peak brightness. The only difference is that it’s protected with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 this time.

Cameras are also improved thanks to the addition of a 50MP telephoto portrait lens and a stronger 50MP selfie camera. The rear cameras are flanked by the same 50MP OIS main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide. There is no macro lens on the Reno12 Pro.

Other than that, you’ll find a 5,000mAh battery with 80W wired charging, just as on the base variant.

The OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G comes in Nebula Silver, and Space Brown.
