ASUS launched the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro in July 2022. Not long after that, the ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate was revealed in November of the same year.

Except for a few key modifications, the four variants do not stray too far from one another. Each are endowed in their own way, but maintains the specs crucial in boosting gaming performance.

We will start off first with what’s consistent in all four ROG Phone 6 variants.

The Similarities

  • Display
All variants in the ASUS ROG Phone 6 Series are fitted with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display. You’ll enjoy buttery smooth gameplay thanks to the 165Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch-sampling rate. • GameCool 6 Cooling System
The ROG Phone 6 Series implements revolutionary ways to keep your phone cool in the chaotic heat of battle. A combination of thermal engineering and external accessories is the key. Internally, the ROG Phone 6 utilizes Boron Nitride (BN) to prevent thermal throttling. This, together with an enlarged vapour chamber and graphite sheets help to dissipate heat. Externally, you have the option of adding on ASUS’ own cooling system – the AeroActive Cooler 6 – to your ROG Phone 6.

  • AirTrigger 6
The AirTrigger 6 are ultrasonic sensor zones on the ROG Phone 6 Series that grants you a unique set of console-like motion controls. This gives you versatility in gameplay movement by introducing new controls that allows you to swivel and push. No longer are you bounded by conventional screen tapping. With AirTrigger 6, you’ll have the advantage of Dual Action, Press and Lift, and Gyroscope Aiming.
  • 6,000mAh Battery
A big battery is a necessity to outlast your opponents, so it’s pivotal that the mega 6,000mAh battery remains in all ROG Phone 6 variants. To aid your conquest is a 65W HyperCharge that’ll juice your device up to 100% in a mere 42 minutes.

  • Camera Systems and Audio
All ROG Phone 6 Series have a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. For the now habitual victory selfie, you can rely on the 12MP front camera. For speakers, you’ll have a symmetrical dual front-facing speakers for balanced stereo sound. If not, the classic 3.5mm headphone jack is always an option.

The Difference

  • Processors
A key difference between the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro versus its 6D and 6D Ultimate counterparts is the processor.

While the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, the ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000+ processor. Both processors are the gaming powerhouse of its time, and both offer unique strengths over each other.

For instance, a test conducted by XDA Developers found that the Dimensity 9000+ outperforms the CPU of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Conversely, the test also indicated that the GPU of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is superior than the GPU found on the Dimensity 9000+.
  • Rear RGB Lighting
In terms of design, the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6D both use Aura RGB Lighting. You can distinguish them from the customizable ROG Fearless Eye dot-matrix logo.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate on the other hand has a ROG Vision Rear Display. This is a 2-inch OLED display with cool animations for when you’re charging, receiving incoming calls, and so on.

This is a notch that opens up to reveal an extra cooling vent that’s compatible with the external AeroActive Cooler 6. What this does is directs the airflow from the AeroActive Cooler 6 to the interior of the 6D Ultimate, enhancing the cooling process further.
