Asus has reclaimed its spot as the world leader in the ultimate mobile gaming experience with the recent release of the ROG Phone 5.
Nope, you did not miss the release of the ROG Phone 4. Asus simply decided to skip from 3 to 5 as the number 4 is considered an unlucky number.

ROG Phone 5 vs Pro
Owners of the ROG Phone 5 Pro will enjoy double the built-in storage (512GB) and two additional features which are:
1. ROG Vision
ROG vision is a rear-facing, black and white display that allows users to feature a premade or custom text or graphic.
Customizations for this display can be accessed and updated via the Armory Crate app. From the Armory Crate, users can what the ROG Vision lights up for and also upload custom texts or graphics. To top it all off, the ROG Vision is orientation sensitive and will adjust the display accordingly.
2. Rear Touch Sensors
In addition to the 2 Air Triggers, the Asus ROG Phone 5 Pro and Ultimate introduces 2 additional programmable rear touch sensors. Although it is not exactly a game-changer if you’re playing Among Us, it’ll definitely come in handy for most first-person shooters.
Pro vs Ultimate
Aside from some slight design variation, the bump from the Pro to Ultimate is only in its ram. The ROG Phone 5 Ultimate is currently the world’s highest ram smartphone.
While an 18GB ram is truly impressive, it does not exactly translate to better performance. This is because a 16GB ram is more than sufficient for heavy resource games and applications.
As a result, the additional 2GB ram is barely noticeable for the most part. Nevertheless, it still gives Asus and owners of the device bragging rights.
ROG Phone 3 vs ROG Phone 5
ROG Phone 3 | ROG Phone 5 | |
OS | Android 10 | Android 11 |
Display | 6.59-inch AMOLED Gorilla Glass 6 | 6.78-inch AMOLED Gorilla Glass Victus |

Rear Panel | RGB logo | RGB logo Pro and Ultimate models only: Secondary display Rear-mounted triggers |
Other(s) | no 3.5mm audio jack | has 3.5mm audio jack Pro and Ultimate models only: has 2 additional rear sensors |
All in all, the upgrades found in the ROG Phone 5 is relatively minor. The main upgrades that gamers will enjoy are the more powerful Snapdragon 888 processor and an improved 60W fast charging option.
In terms of the display, users can expect the same buttery smooth experience with the 144Hz refresh rate and a slightly bigger estate of 6.78inch.
Final Thoughts:
The Asus ROG Phone 5 is undoubtedly amongst the best gaming phone currently in the market. However, in all honesty, we found the ROG Phone 5 to be a little underwhelming considering how minor the improvements are.
Don’t get us wrong, it is still a great phone in every way! But, if you currently own the ROG Phone 3, there is nothing too exciting in the ROG Phone 5 which will warrant an upgrade in our opinion.
