ASUS: No, we won’t be manufacturing DRAM anytime soon

Well it seems like ASUS won’t be making their own DRAM after all. Following rumours and reports that they were planning to enter the memory business, the Taiwanese giant has since come out and squashed all claims once and for all.

This comes as Taiwan state media outlet CNA went straight to the source to ask ASUS about the rumours. ASUS then responded by stating that they have no plans to invest in any memory fabs at time of writing. Instead, they said that they would continue to deepen its partnerships with memory suppliers. On top of that, ASUS will be responding to the market by adjusting product specifications and optimising lifecycles as and when is needed.

As a refresher, the claim originally came from Persian tech magazine Sakhtafzarmag. They alleged that ASUS was planning to enter the memory module market by Q2 next year. It was unclear whether ASUS would actually manufacture the modules themselves or source it from elsewhere; regardless, neither will be happening anytime soon.

That being said, Sakhtafzarmag has been right about a few things in the past, which perhaps gave itself the benefit of doubt in this story. For instance, they were one of the first to publish a detailed look at the AMD Ryzen 8000G series of APUs. In any case, with ASUS denying that they’re entering the memory market, it seems that the DRAM crisis caused by the AI bubble will continue until morale improves.
