Apple Reveals iOS 26 With New ‘Liquid Glass’ Design at WWDC 2025

Apple has officially unveiled iOS 26 at WWDC 2025, marking one of the most significant visual redesigns to the iPhone operating system in recent years. The update introduces a new design language called Liquid Glass, which replaces the longstanding interface elements seen across previous versions of iOS.

Internally codenamed “Solarium” during development, the Liquid Glass design brings a more tactile and responsive aesthetic to the user interface. According to Apple, this change was inspired by VisionOS — the operating system used in its mixed-reality headset. The new visual style mimics the qualities of glass, featuring translucent, light-reactive surfaces that shift subtly with motion and content on screen.

The Liquid Glass elements are most noticeable in areas like the lock screen clock and app folder backgrounds. These now have a reflective, dynamic look that visually responds to the environment, giving the impression of depth and movement as users interact with their devices.

In addition to this design shift, Apple is also expanding its traditional display modes. Alongside the familiar Light and Dark Modes, users will find a new Clear Mode. This mode visually transforms standard app icons and interface components into transparent, glass-like versions, aligning with the broader Liquid Glass theme.

The new design language won’t be limited to iPhones alone. Apple confirmed that Liquid Glass will be a cross-platform visual standard, expected to appear in iPadOS, macOS, and other Apple platforms moving forward. This marks an effort to bring consistency across the ecosystem, tying together Apple’s software experiences under a shared visual identity.
