Apple Reportedly Working on Smart Glasses to Take On Meta’s AI Eyewear

Rumours have it that Apple is currently working on its own iteration of smart glasses, in a move likely to lock horns with Meta’s AI glasses. Meta’s AI eyewear has been gaining traction of late, with collaborations with fashion brands Ray-Ban and Oakley adding to their appeal.
We don’t yet know if Apple intends to seek out fashion partnerships or if it plans to release them solo.
If the smart glasses come to fruition, they will likely be an iPhone accessory—like the Apple Watch or AirPods—and part of the ecosystem, with all OS working in tandem for a seamless experience.

According to MacRumors, the smart glasses will be offered in metal and plastic frames, with a choice of either standard lenses or sunglasses. They won’t stray too far from Meta’s proven formula. Expect a built-in camera, microphones, and an LED light that indicates when the wearer is recording.
One feature in development that could make Apple’s smart glasses stand out is Visual Intelligence integration, where wearers can simply look at a subject, ask questions, and give actionable commands (for instance, look at a concert poster and command it to be added to the calendar).
None of this has a concrete release date yet—if it ever sees the light of day outside the R&D building. If it does make it to the pipeline, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says it could be as early as 2026.
