More Apple execs exit Cupertino: Meta poaches design lead responsible for Liquid Glass

By Raymond Saw December 5, 2025

Barely a few days after Apple announced that their head of AI John Giannandrea was retiring, more top executives are now heading out of Cupertino. This time around, it’s Apple’s Design Studio lead Alan Dye, who’s leaving the giant for rival Meta.

As revealed by Mark Gurman, Meta has poached Dye from Apple as part of their move to become a hardware manufacturer on top of their software and social media platforms. Dye will become Meta’s chief design officer and it seems that Meta will even form a new in-house design studio for Dye to lead as they plan on integrating hardware, sofware and AI into their UI.

Dye will be reporting to Meta’s Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth. Bosworth himself runs Reality Labs, the division in charge of developing Meta’s wearable devices.

Having begun at Apple since 2006, Dye was best known as the man responsible for Liquid Glass. His portfolio included helping shape the software on everything from iPhones and iPads to the Mac, Watch and Vision Pro. Some of his key work on top of Liquid Glass include iOS 7, CarPlay, Activity Rings, Dynamic Island and VisionOS for the Apple Vision Pro.

On top of that, Gurman later added that Apple General Counsel Kate Adams and Environment/Government Affairs Chief Lisa Jackson are also leaving. Together with Dye and Giannandrea, this makes it four major execs revealed to be leaving Cupertino in a span of days. Then there’s also Jeff Williams, their former Chief Operating Officer who retired last month, as well as former hardware chief Dan Riccio who retired a few months back.
